PUBLIC TRANSPORT BUTTON, EDE

The Public Transport Button Ede is a project in which the station Ede - Wageningen and the surrounding area is being renovated, expanded and greened. In the future, travelers will be welcomed in a station that forms the direct entrance to the Veluwe.

The project is being carried out by the combination of Van Hattem en Blankevoort, Van Wijnen and VolkerRail and includes the:

  • construction of a new station building and track cover;
  • construction of a passenger tunnel (Oosttunnel), including lift points to the platforms;
  • construction of an underpass for pedestrians and bicycle traffic under the tracks (Westtunnel);
  • construction of a bridge for pedestrians and bicycle traffic over the tracks (Langzaam Verkeerbrug);
  • adaptation and renewal of the railway track, including platforms;
  • demolition of the existing station;
  • construction of the station squares.

The Oosttunnel is one of the largest works of art within the project, which connects the new station on the south side of the tracks with the Frisopark on the north side. The platforms can be reached from the tunnel. The East tunnel has a length of approx. 65 m and a width (without lift points) of approx. 19 m. The tunnel has a weight of more than 8,000 tonnes and has been moved by means of sliding tracks and jacks in order to put the track out of service.

GEO2 Engineering B.V. provided the geotechnical design for both the civil and structural components of the project. This concerns, among other things, the design of foundations on steel and on piles, anchored sheet piles, retaining walls and consideration of the expected deformations of the East Tunnel during retraction in the train-free period.

GEO2 Engineering B.V. has also performed checks of the subsurface and compaction at the permanent location of the East Tunnel during the track's decommissioning.
